Robb Kahl Endorsed by Planned Parenthood for 47th Assembly District Seat

September 14th, 2012

(Monona) “I am deeply honored to receive the endorsement of Planned Parenthood especially at this critical juncture for the future of reproductive rights in our state and nation,” Kahl said.  “I share the belief held by so many people in the 47th Assembly District, and elsewhere in Wisconsin, that women have the right to make their own health care decisions about their own bodies.”

Planned Parenthood health centers provide a broad range of services, more than 90% of which are lifesaving cancer screenings, birth control, prevention and treatment of STD’s, breast health services, Pap tests, sexual health education, information and health counseling. One in five women has turned to Planned Parenthood at some time in her life for professional, non-judgmental and confidential care. No one does more than Planned Parenthood to reduce unintended pregnancies and keep women healthy.

In Wisconsin, the ability of Planned Parenthood to provide services completely unrelated to abortion has also been under attack.    “I also support the lifesaving work Planned Parenthood does in providing cancer screenings and information to help prevent the spread of disease,” Kahl added.  “The State of Wisconsin needs to partner with organizations like Planned Parenthood whenever possible to provide these vital services.  As a member of the State Assembly I will support efforts to restore and expand these partnerships.”

Kahl is committed to ensuring that women have access to reproductive health services in our state. Kahl’s Republican opponent has called the legislative war on women “fictitious,” and is endorsed by “Pro-Life Wisconsin.” This organization believes women should not have access to these reproductive health services, including various forms of contraception and reproductive services even in cases of rape, incest or when the health of the woman is at risk.

“I differ strongly from my opponent on stem cell research as well,” Kahl added.  “Rather than ultimately discarding unused stem cells as medical waste as my opponent’s position requires, I feel we ought to do everything we can to allow researchers to use donated cells to develop new treatments for disease and potentially give millions of individuals a new lease on life.”

Kahl believes the ability to conduct research and development using stem cells will be vital to the growth and development of the biotechnology sector and create hundreds of good paying, family supporting jobs.

Kahl and his wife Jennifer have been married for 15 years and have four children. He looks forward to representing the residents of the newly configured 47th Assembly District (McFarland and Monona, part of the cities of Fitchburg and Madison, all or part of towns of Cottage Grove, Blooming Grove, Dunn and Madison.
